the foundation of democracy
Much can be debated on the question of Moses in the study of American democracy.
These facts cannot:
1] Page 1 of Deuteronomy says that Moses told the people of Israel they should choose their own leaders ...
2] ... from among themselves.
3] The English colonists of North America read that passage and understood that "THE FOUNDATION OF AUTHORITY IS LAID, FIRSTLY, IN THE FREE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE."
Other things are up for debate. Those things are not. Here are two statements from me: the first is opinion:
1] Every American should know the above facts.
The second is anecdotal claim — I await disproof:
Not one among the most educated, politically-involved, interested cross-sections of Americans I've ever come across have *YET* to mention Deuteronomy 1:13 or the "foundation of authority" quote. Not one.
Every American should know this. Now you do!
