blue laws

A friend notes that, in Texas, liquor stores are closed on Sunday, and you can't buy alcohol for 12 hours. Yes, there are still blue laws. You can now go shopping, but you can't have a champagne brunch at 11.

Notice: the blue laws that protected workers and gave them a day off with their families are completely kaput, but the ones that preserve an idiosyncratic view of some group's Scripture, to everyone's inconvenience, are still around.

Yep: just about right.
