In 3100 BC, two officials of a temple in Jemdet Nasr (then part of Sumeria, now part of Iraq) received a load of barley. They had been receiving and distributing barley for four years already. In six installments they received 160 barigs. (One barig is roughly 300 liters.)

That is the oldest event recorded in history.

This isn't particularly news, and I've known of it before, but it's good to remind ourselves of these things occasionally, and look at it all squinting different ways, so it seems that our human record goes way back and it seems that it is shockingly young.
