We applaud when Germany restores a fortune or a great artwork that had been taken from a Jewish family, even generations later when all the actual actors (both perps and victims) are dead. 

Britain just got through paying off its debt from slavery in 2015. (When the UK passed the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833, the government borrowed £20 million (roughly 40% of its national budget at the time) to make it happen. 

So all that time, well into our lifetimes, they had been taking money from taxpayers to pay off the debt they paid ... to .... 
 ... the ... 

slave *OWNERS*. 

So. 

Yeah, if *that* can happen, then this can happen.
