almond eyes

I've always wondered about the term "almond eyes." 

Big soulful eyes are often called that, but it seems to me that actual almonds don't really look like almond eyes. If there were any artist that regularly put almond eyes on faces, I'd say it's Modigliani — *those* are *actual* almond shapes.
